Group of Four Decorated Folios — Unknown

This group of four folios illustrates the care taken to all aspects of the arts of the book, one of the most important categories of Islamic arts. One of the distinctive features of manuscripts from Iran, Ottoman Turkey, and Mughal and Deccani India is the frequent use of decorative techniques in the borders and margins, which in some cases may connect thematically with the central picture or calligraphic sample. These pages have been fabricated by use of a stencil, which was used to form the outline of the undulating floral and arabesque motifs.
