Chamberlain's key with the monogram of Maximilian I Joseph, King of Bavaria — Unknown

Functional and highly decorative, gilt bronze was used throughout the eighteenth-century interior. Ranging from hearth fittings and lighting to furniture mounts and hardware for door and windows. This key has a gilt-bronze bow with an openwork monogram formed by the letters M and J; it was a chambelain’s key with the monogram of Maximilian I Joseph, King of Bavaria (r. 1806–1826).
