Oscar Wilde dressed in aesthetic garb sits dejectedly on a sand pile by the water's edge, as puzzled children holding look at him. He holds a strand of seaweed. This is a proof of a wood engraving published in Harper's Bazar. In the latter publication, this text was printed below: "Oscar at the Sea-Shore. Young America: “Come, let’s bury him in the sand and put him out of his misery.”
