Saccoccio is best known for her colorful abstract paintings, which are often made of materials such as oil and mica. With their multiple layers of paint, irregular forms, and flurries of drips and bold slashes, her works show an engagement with Abstract Expressionism and its legacy. By contrast, in Untitled, she restricts herself to a black-and-white palette. From these two colors, she renders a variety of grays, which, in addition to the black lines and white spaces, creates a complex construction that captures the same energy, vibrancy, and motion seen in her paintings. In addition to etching, she achieves effects through aquatint, scraping, and embossing to mimic the layered colors and forms of her paintings, while at the same time showing a mastery of printmaking processes.
