Vase — Archibald Knox|Liberty & Co.

Archibald Knox began his association with Liberty in about 1898, coinciding with Liberty’s launch of the "Cymric" line. Intended to be useful, modest, and elegant, Cymric wares had hammer marks and uneven surfaces that celebrated the traditions of hand-hammered metalwork (although many were machine spun with the hammering added later.) This piece is characteristic, with clean lines, minimal ornament, and a simple construction that is rooted in the Arts and Crafts movement.
