Raymond Templier|Templier

Like many jewelers of his time, Raymond Templier was born into a tradition of jewelry making. His grandfather, Charles, founded the firm of Templier in Paris in 1849. Raymond was not interested in traditional jewelry making; instead, he valued form over precious materials. Inspired by Cubism, the interlocking forms combine silver, eggshell, and lacquer. As an artist-jeweler, Templier’s designs translate the avant-garde movements of his time into jewelry and objects. As a founding member of the Union des Artistes Modernes (UAM), he helped modernize European design. Other notable members included Eileen Gray, Gérard Sandoz, Sonia Delauney, Le Corbusier, and Charlotte Perriand. The group of architects and designers innovated design practices through the use of new forms, materials, and techniques.
