Plate part of a collection of 30 pochoir pattern plates, originally part of a book titled "Les fleurs et leurs applications décoratives" (Flowers and their decorative applications), created by Émile-Allain Séguy and published in Paris by A. Calavas, as part of the collection "Librairie des Arts Decoratifs" (Library of Decorative Arts) in 1902. The plate features three ornamental designs inspired on the natural beauty of orchids, providing what Séguy considered a successful example of the application of scientific study of flowers in artistic creation, resulting in colorful designs likely intended for textiles or wallpapers. The first design consists of a purple book cover with thin, scrolling branches, colored with green, that begin on the back of the cover, flanked with semi-abstract leaves, colored with dark green, and end on the front cover, flanked by semi-abstract orchids, colored with shades of orange. The second design is made up of semi-abstract three-petal orchids, colored with green and blue, over an orange ground with scrolling branches with semi-abstract leaves executed with a lighter shade of orange. The third design, likely for a wallpaper or curtain, is made up of interlacing branches with semi-abstract three-petal orchids, executed with shades of green and with blue details.
