A young Soviet man and two women prepare to enter combat in this print by O’Higgins, an American member of the TGP. The text announces that the first line of defense—the Soviet Front (more commonly referred to as the Eastern Front)—must be held. In late June 1941, the military coalition led by Nazi forces began their advance on the Soviet Union. Eighty percent of all combat in World War II took place on the Soviet Front, resulting in roughly thirty million deaths.
