Sponsored by the Mexican Union of Electricians, this poster features a portrait of Joseph Stalin flanked by Soviet soldiers and announces a rally in his honor. Much admired by the left in Mexico, Stalin led the Soviet Union from 1924 until his death in 1953 and served as the general secretary of the Communist Party. Following in the footsteps of Vladimir Lenin, he promoted revolutionary leadership to depose capitalism by empowering the working classes. The rallying cry on the poster—"Under the Banner of Lenin, Forward Toward Victory"—was meant to offer hope to those fighting fascism across the world. The 1937 biographical drama Lenin in October was screened as part of the celebration.
