'Work and Rest' a Mexican woman carrying a child on her back while preparing tortilla — Jean Charlot|Kistler (Lynton R. and/or Will A.)

Charlot maintained connections with curators at The Met long after he moved to Hawaii in 1949. This print is one of a group of lithographs he gave to the Museum in 1960. It returns to one of his favorite subjects, scenes from daily life that he began developing in Mexico in the 1920s. Here, an Indigenous Mexican woman prepares tortilla while her child rests.
