Beginning on June 30, 1905, torrential rain fell on Guanajuato for two days, causing a nearby dam to burst and flood the city. More than two hundred people died, and the city’s infrastructure suffered significant damage. News of the disaster circulated in the local and international press, reaching the New York Times on July 4; it was also covered in the flyers and broadsheets of the Mexican illustrated press. This satirical print with art by Posada offers short fictional stories about the mischievous behavior of those who died in the flood. El 30 de junio de 1905 empezó a caer en Guanajuato una lluvia torrencial que duró dos días. El diluvio reventó una presa cercana que inundó la ciudad. Fallecieron más de doscientas personas y se produjeron daños considerables en las infraestructuras. Las noticias de la catástrofe circularon por la prensa local e internacional y llegaron al New York Times el 4 de julio. Las hojas volantes de la prensa ilustrada mexicana también informaron de la riada.
