This small pamphlet traces the history of an expensive silk umbrella whose construction includes a “paragon spring,” patented by a New York inventor in 1875. Poetic text recounts how the umbrella dislikes being left with a "motley group" in the hall when taken to social events by its owner and then, after much use, is lent to a friend and never reclaimed.
