Umbrico has a long-standing interest in the ever-increasing production and consumption of photographs on the Internet. For her most recent body of work, she mined the photo-sharing website Flickr for images of the full moon made by both amateur and professional photographers around the world. In this video, a screenshot of the 1.1 million photographs of the moon she found on Flickr scrolls by at a dizzying speed, highlighting the notion of photography as a global collective practice. Although the images are nearly identical, each represents a unique moment of individual fascination with the shining orb in the night sky.
