The Arts and Crafts Movement saw great popularity among artists and makes for Native American crafts. New Jersey’s Clifton Pottery responded to that taste by initiating a line of Indian ware with shapes derived from archaeological forms and decoration, such as the ornamentation seen on this teapot. The pottery utilized a nearly identical form with a slightly different handle and completely different finial on a teapot with a matte green glaze, as seen in an example in the collection of the Newark Museum.
