Line Involvements — Tamarind Lithography Workshop|Anni Albers

A suite of seven lithographs including the title page, hand printed on Rives BFK paper and enclosed in a wrap-around folder of Japanese paper. Front cover of folder lettered with the following text: 'LINE INVOLVEMENTS BY ANNI ALBERS'. In 1964 both Anni and Josef Albers went to Los Angeles as Tamarind fellows. It was during this fellowship that she executed the portfolio 'Line Involvements.' Using thread-like interlacing with an incised effect, these lithographs draw inspiration from her work with textiles. The striated and cloudy backgrounds were created by etching with acid, applying crayon with rag, or streaking with lithographic tusche. According to the artist, the idea was to start with a simple form and make it more complicated with each succeeding print, see: Buzzard 1980, p. 3.
