Textile Design with Alternating Rows of Hexagons and Ovals Flanked by Pearls Framed by a Network of Stiff Branches

Rectangular sheet of paper with a textile design from a group, dated 1840, made in Mulhouse, Alsace which was an important nineteenth-century center for textile production in the Haut-Rhin region of France. The design is made up of alternating rows of hexagons and ovals flanked by groups of five pearls, framed by a network of stiff branches of light tan color with branch offsets of dark reddish-brown color over a ground of light tan color with dark reddish-bround stipples. The hexagon is colored with orange and outlined in red and the ovals are colored with purple and outlined in red. The pearls are of white color.
