Egyptian pottery figure types derived from a Greek tradition were popular in the Ptolemaic Period, along with techniques introduced from Greek workshops. This head with curly hair and beard does not seem to fit the categories of gods or festival figures. Although no particular 'type' can be identified, it may rather be associated with the Hellenistic interest in the array of human types.
