Parallel Greek text and French translation, with notes in French. Translation and notes by François Jean Gabriel de La Porte du Theil. Contemporary red morocco binding with arms of René Nicholas Augustin de Maupeou (1714-1792), Chancellor of France, with porcupine, at center of front and back covers and repeated porcupine motif in all four corners. In heraldry, the porcupine is the symbol of invincibility. It is also the badge of King Louis XII of France (1498-1515) and his motto: "Cominus et eminus," from near and afar, alluding to the myth of porcupines throwing their spines at enemies.
