Untitled

late 18th–19th century · Porcelain painted with colored enamels over transparent glaze (Jingdezhen ware) · Asian Art

Cataloguing of porcelains with a yellow background remains problematic. Although vases such as this have traditionally been dated to the eighteenth century, it is possible that they were produced in the nineteenth as part of the reinvigoration of trade in Chinese porcelains spurred by the new interest in this material on the part of collectors such as Benjamin Altman.
