The “Success to the King of Prussia” plates (see also 2014.712.7) can be dated to the time of Frederick the Great’s successes against the French in the Seven Years’ War, after an alliance was formed between Britain and Prussia in 1756. In this context, the two plates offer insight into the political and military history of the time, as well as providing an interesting comparison between two styles of decoration.
