Drawing for a female theatrical costume with a white gown with floral embellishments
Vincente Minnelli
1933–39 · Watercolor over graphite · Drawings and Prints

Drawing, design for a woman's costume, part of a group of 88 costume designs by Vincente Minnelli. The costume consists of a figure-hugging, strapless, long, white gown with a brown band embellished with flowers running diagonally across the torso. Her blond hair is pulled up, and is decorated with a golden headpiece on her forehead. A matching necklace and two bracelets complete her costume. The type of lean silhouette and clear color featured in this dress was in vogue during the 1930s, a fashion that was likely started and diffused by costume designs worn by the female stars of the Hollywood Golden Age.
