Jug
Christopher Dresser|Linthorpe Pottery Works
ca. 1880 · Earthenware · European Sculpture and Decorative Arts

This jug, the shape of which is inspired by ancient Roman glass vessels, reflects one of Dresser’s more interesting and significant ceramic designs, and is not a common model in his work. This example is notable for the distinctive shape of both the jug and its angular ear-shaped handle, and for the rich, lustrous glazes in shades of mottled brown, light brown, and green.
