A woman, boy and dog hurry through a downpour in the Berkshire village of Cookham, with houses lining the road and a horse and cart approaching. The composition derives from a watercolour of ca. 1871 (Victoria and Albert Museum), and an impression of the print was shown at the Royal Academy of Arts, London in 1894. Stamp manipulated his medium in masterly fashion to convey the misty dampness and muted tonality of the subject.
