Across southern and central Côte d'Ivoire and into Guinea and Liberia, women make dark-colored, wide-bodied pots for a variety of household uses. Most potters use the direct pull method to make their wares, which are then fired in the open. While We and Guere potters, as well as their Dan neighbors, are known to make wares that are similar in shape to those of the Baule, but with thicker walls and more robust appearance, this is a particularly thin-walled and elegant example in an unusual cylindrical shape.
