This tool was created from a flake knocked off from a larger core. There are no obvious signs of working, but one side (lower edge in photograph) appears to have been used, perhaps as a scraper. Flake tools, especially those showing the Levallois technique, and not core tools, characterize the Middle Paleolithic Period (90,000-35,000 B.C.). A number of industries, each with slightly different tool kits, have been noted. By 35,000 B.C. modern humans occupied Egypt.
