Jar with decorated rim, swivel, and knob
Unknown
664–30 B.C. · Faience · Egyptian Art

The color of this cylindrical vessel suggests a Late Period or Ptolemaic Period date, although the type of the vessel seems unfamiliar in Egypt. In a thickening on one side of the vessel's lip there is a hole for a swivel for the now missing lid. When meant to remain closed, string would have secured a knob on the lid to a knob protruding from the side of the vessel opposite the swivel.
