Scarab with the Representation of a Sphinx

A recumbent sphinx –a mythological creature with the body of a lion and the head of a man– faces right. As an embodiment of the pharaoh, he wears the Double Crown of Upper and Lower Egypt. Above the sphinx’s back is the hieroglyph for praise while the djed-pillar stands below; these signs specify that the pharaoh is being praised for his endurance.
