Fragment of an ovoid flask

This fragment, from an ovoid flask with a narrow neck, preserves part of a band of water, on which a papyrus skiff bearing two calves floats against a backdrop of marsh plants. One calf is in the process of jumping off the prow; the other, wearing a collar and leash, lies in the middle of the boat. This type of decoration is often seen on chalices; unlike a chalice, this fragment is not glazed inside. The quality of the work here is excellent, likely from the workshop of a master potter.
