The Egyptian pharaoh had several royal names, the most common one being the prenomen or throne name. Royal titulary also included a Golden Horus name, where the royal name was connected with the Horus falcon who was depicted perched upon the hieroglyph for gold. Both images figure in the upper part of this scarab’s base. The sign for good and beautiful (nefer) and the three palm tree branches together form the expression ‘perfect of years’. This is part of the Golden Horus name of pharaoh Thutmose I (early Dynasty 18, ca. 1504-1492 B.C.).
