This cartonnage mummy case, along with 06.1232.1, was excavated by John Cardwell, American Consul General in Egypt between 1886 and 1889, at the site of Meidum near modern Cairo. Both of these cartonnages represent a northern Upper Egyptian style seen from Middle Egypt to the Memphite region, and that perhaps may also have been used in the Delta. Elements of the northern Upper Egyptian style that can be noted here are the white background and relatively sparse decoration. A single line of inscription, in this case so corrupted as to be practically unreadable, runs down the center of the front. The figure here wears a tripartite wig in blue and a broad collar that extends to the center of the chest. No hands are visible.
