Relief showing a royal ship
Unknown
ca. 2400–2323 B.C. · Limestone · Egyptian Art

Fourteen men strain at the oars of a boat, the size of which suggests that it belongs to a royal scene. The oarsmen are led by a coxswain flourishing a baton. Above, an inscription reads "God's Boat." The very low, almost incised edges of the relief point to a date in the second half of the Fifth Dynasty.
