This is an example of the iconic headless electric guitars designed by Ned Steinberger. Originally based in Brooklyn, New York, Steinberger worked with the bass player Stuart Spector to develop a new design for a four-string electric bass and eventually introduced the "broom" shaped bass model in 1979. The company Steinberger Sound was formed with production in Newburgh, New York, and in 1984 the GL model six-string guitar with a Trans Trem floating tremolo with the similar headless body was introduced. The instrument is made from a proprietary material called "Steinberger blend" that is a mix of graphite and carbon fiber. The string tuners are located at the bottom end of the instrument and hidden from view.
