Whistle — Unknown

This small, rectangular whistle from Mali has been carved from wood. At one end of the instrument is a seated figure, seemingly on the shoulders of a figure whose face has been carved to its left. Four diamond-shaped transverse projections serve as four finger holes, one of which is stopped. The blowhole is found at the opposite end of the seated figure. This instrument’s sculptural elements evoke the visual language of the Dogon people of central Mali. (Althea SullyCole, 2022)
