Frame drums such as this one are used across west and central Asia. This is an example of a dap drum used by the Uighurs of western China that has metal jingles on the inside. The word is onomatopoeic and derives from the sound it makes when it is tapped. The drum is used in a variety of ensembles along with instruments such as the tar, kamanche, and duduk. Description: Round wood frame with single head; wood rim finished with alternately dark and light triangular wood inlay at edge; metal rings (jingles) on inside.
