Taiko or Daiko is generic for Japanese drums of all sizes and shapes. Some, like the kakko, the hourglass-shaped tsuzumi and this drum have ring frames that secure the skin heads. Shimedaiko refers to shallow bodied drums like this nōdaiko, so named for its use in nō theatre where the player uses two cylindrical wood beaters to play named patterns.
