This bodhisattva, holding a lotus (padma), likely represents Avalokiteshvara Padmapani. Portable images stylistically related to this one circulated in Gandhara, Kashmir, and as far north as the Central Asian Buddhist kingdom of Khotan, an important trading center on the Silk Road.
