The wagon, or yamato-goto, is employed in mi-kagura, the formal imperial Shinto music, to accompany song and male dance. Considered Japan's only indigenous string instrument, this zither's unusual features include bridges make of forked maple twigs and projecting teeth, to which the strings are tied.
