This is a facsimile of a Roman cornu found at Pompeii. It was donated to the Museum by Mary Elizabeth Adams Brown, the pioneering instrument collector and scholar who gifted over 3,500 instruments to the Met. She acquired the instrument from Charles Victor Mahillon, a noted Belgian instrument maker, collector and scholar with whom she often corresponded.
