Long-stemmed goblet drums of Myanmar were most popular during the reign of King Mindon (1853–78) shortly before this instrument was made. Carved from a single piece of wood and fitted with a deerskin head having a central pa’sa (blackened tuning paste), this drum is found in a variety of sizes. It is usually suspended either diagonally across the player’s chest or hanging to the left side.
