"Christy" Sugar Bowl (model CD01 AZ)
Centro Studio Alessi S.p.A.|Christopher Dresser
original design 1864, adapted 1993 · Plastic · Modern and Contemporary Art

This witty bowl derives from a prototype by Christopher Dresser (hence the model name "Christy"), considered the first industrial designer who produced work-for-hire designs in collaboration with various manufacturers. Here, Dresser's unsettlingly biomorphic footed design, originally made in silver plate, is inexpensively mass-produced in brilliantly colored thermoplastic resin. The updated design is both a reverent homage and completely original.
