This cabinet formed part of the furnishings of the main salon of the É-J. Ruhlmann pavilion at the 1925 Exposition International des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, Paris. While Ruhlmann designed and made the vast majority of the furnishings in his pavilion, a few works were supplied by his friends—essentially, to fill in gaps. Its simplicity of form is offset by the spectacular graining of the wood veneer, with perfectly matched repeats that resemble watered silk.
