Although Fauvism lasted in painting from only 1905 to 1907, its impact lingered in the decorative arts well into the 1920s. The decoration of this vase employs the dense rich colors, coarse brushstrokes, and formal simplifications characteristic of the style. The writer-painter Crevel produced the decorative design, which was painted on a stock porcelain blank by a craftsman at the Sèvres workshops near Paris.
