Grant's Tomb, New York — Hannah Wilke

Here Wilke attached kneaded erasers meant to resemble vulvas to a vintage postcard. The profusion of erotic part-objects perverts the otherwise earnest image of the tomb of General Ulysses S. Grant, whose aura of phallic masculinity is deflated by Wilke’s irreverent, distinctly feminist additions.
