Crucified Christ
Unknown
ca. 1150–75 · Copper alloy, gilt · The Cloisters

This corpus from an altar cross possesses great strength and individuality. It can be related to a group of cast figures from the Rhine Valley that continues an earlier tradition of depicting the suffering figure of Christ in a naturalistic way with softly modeled anatomical details.
