early 14th century · Limestone · The Cloisters

Although it is said to have been discovered in a garden near Chablis, the actual source of this figure is unknown. Over life-size, it may come from the entrance of a church, perhaps set between the doors as a trumeau figure. A stylistically related figure serves as the trumeau on the north portal of the church of Saint-Thibault in Burgundy.
