These heavy doors were originally affixed to the stone Doorway (25.120.878) now installed at the entrance of the Romanesque Hall. The ironwork served both to decorate and to secure the church of Saint-Sulpice in Coulangé, which was placed under the authority of a local monastery shortly before 1150. Barnard acquired both the doorway, which became the main entrance of his Cloisters museum, and its doors, but it is not clear if he knew that these components originally went together.
