Processional Cross
Unknown
13th century · Champlevé enamel, gilt copper and rock crystals · Medieval Art

Like the upper and lower book cover plaques from Limoges, the front and back of the cross combine images of the crucified Christ and the resurrected Christ in Majesty. The figures were worked in copper separately and then applied to the enameled surfaces. The raised forms made the figures easier to see when the cross was carried.
