Virgin and Child — Antonio Rossellino

This plaquette, depicting the Virgin and Child, is based on a composition by Antonio Rossellino. It is a simpler variant of another in the Lehman Collection (1975.1.1331), which bears angels crowing the Virgin. Other versions of the plaquette are in the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Florence and the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. Given the coarseness of this aftercast, like that of the Washington piece, it is likely that it was made in the nineteenth century.
