Sodoma (Giovanni Antonio Bazzi)
early–mid-16th century · Pen and brown ink, brown wash, over black chalk (recto); pen and brown ink, black chalk (verso) · Robert Lehman Collection

This sheet may have served as a preparatory study for the figure of Saint Sebastian in a painting, God the Father and Saints, in the church of San Domenico, Siena. In the painting, the serpentine figure of Saint Sebastian is similarly posed with his arms bound to a tree. Both works may be attributed to a follower of the Sienese artist Sodoma.
