Watch
Jacques Goullons
ca. 1645–48 · Case and dial of enameled gold; hand of steel; movement of brass, partly gilded, and steel · Robert Lehman Collection

The decoration of this elaborately jeweled pocket watch includes a depiction of the young Louis XIV on horseback and a miniature with the arms of France and Navarre and the Orders of Saint Michael and the Holy Spirit. It was presumably made for the young king, and is one of the most important surviving watches of its period.
